THE STORY BEHIND THIS SHORT:  Emilio stopped into California Bicycle in La Jolla (San Diego) one friday and afternoon to buy an inner tube.  Kevin and Jason, owners of shop started talking with Emilio about business during Covid when Kevin said, "we really need a baggy short that has a liner with some padding it."  Jason added "yeah, all these people who are new to cycling do not want to wear tight stuff."  Emilio replied, "give me a week and I will have something for you."

So this is what Emilio made.  It is the Big Boy Baggy Run Short with a Carrera Tri Short as a liner that is sewn onto the waist.  That is the easy way to describe it, but it is entirely cut and sewn together with a nice clean professional look.  You can now literally swim, bike, and run and surf, and play golf and tennis, in this short.

These are not a highly fashionable slim fit snug garment.  Not at all.  This is the one short your significant other will not buy for you.  But you will never be more comfortable in whatever you are doing in the sun.  These are not a fashion statement, at least not yet.  THEY ARE A COMFORT STATEMENT ON AND OFF THE BIKE.

  • The waist has a 1-1/2 in elastic waistband with a heavy duty drawcord so they will staying up if you are bent over your bars as you keep traction climbing a rock garden, if you fall on the biggest of waves, or if you dive off a high cliff into the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Swim, bike and run in comfort
  • Not designed for repeated use in a chlorinated pool
  • Made in the USA

  • Two side zippers conceal one of the most intricate and well-thought pocket systems in any set of sport shorts.
  • The zippers open wide to fit your entire hand.
  • Through each zipper you access a front pocket and a back pocket.
  • The front pockets are large and deep, large enough to fit a footlong sandwich, a tall can of beer, a 750ml wine bottle if you keep the sipper open, and even large enough to fit 5 tennis balls in each side.  Why would you?  Well, unless you play with a lot of tennis balls, you wouldn’t, but we want you get a good idea of how big the pockets are. Inside the right front pocket there is a smaller pocket for loose change, a hotel card key or credit card, or even most reading glasses.
  • The back pockets sit up higher on the hips so you do no not sit on what you have inside. There is a "ledged-seam" between the front and back pockets so things do not fall from back to front.  Since someone is bound to ask, yes, even the largest smart phones will easily fit in any The pockets are sewn to the outside of the shorts so they stay in place.
The entire short is made of our Microsurf fabric, and 100% woven polyester that does not shrink, pill, or fade. The fabric will only soften up over time. This short has no liner inside.  Instead you can wear, tri shorts, a speedo, boxers or boxer brief, or hang loose with nothing at all if you want.

      I love these shorts

I own a lot of De Soto baggy shorts. Most of the are over 10 years old. Since I’ve been working from home, I decided to treat myself to some new pairs. The technology and construction of the shorts have been upgraded since I originally bought my first pairs. Although I believe the shorts are made for men, I love the fit through my hips and the drawstring waist band adjusts tightly enough for my waist. They are fantastic for cycling, walking and just general hanging out.

Incredible design!! Commuting with these is SO easy - the zip double pockets are perfect for keeping things secure, and the integrated lightly padded bike shorts REALLY keep things secure in there :). Thanks DeSoto.

Steep price, and worth every penny, 40 years of cycling and the only other short that comes close is the Desoto 400 mile bib short. I'd like a pair for everyday of the week.

The size chart above should serve as a general guide. If you would like assistance in determining the proper size, please send the following information to

WEIGHT - Accuracy helps us provide a more accurate size for you.
CHEST - Fullest part of breast, measured as the largest part of circumference right over the pectoral muscle.
WAIST -  Circumference measured at the belly-button line - this is NOT the same as your pants waist size.
HIPS - Circumference measured at the widest point, NOT at your hips where your belt may go. Typically this will measure just a few inches below your hip bones and around the largest part of the glutes.

If you do not have a tape measure and you need something to measure with, use a belt, or smart phone power cord, and a ruler.
