T1 First Wave Concept 5 Pullover*
If your arms are bigger, you'd swim faster! If you could float more, you'd swim faster! This pullover incorporates both concepts and is legal in Ironman®, 70.3®, USAT, and ITU sanctioned events. T1 First Wave Concept 5 and T1 First Wave Pullovers are identical with the exception of the sleeve thickness. Concept 5 has 5 mm sleeves and the First Wave has 2mm sleeves. The difference is like adding about 3-4 additional fingers of surface area to each hand. The best way to see how significant that difference would be is to try swimming with just one or two of your fingers open and the others bent in (like making a peace sign).
In trying to determine if the T1 First Wave Concept 5 would better for you than the T1 First Wave Pullover, it would depend on the answer to these questions:
- Do you consider the water you swim in to be cold?
- Do you get cold easily when swimming?
- Do you have a medium to strong glide phase in your stroke? In other words to you swim with a bit of a catch-up stroke where one arm is out in front of you until the other arm is in the recovery phase and about to enter the water?
- Compared to the rest of your body, do you consider yourself to have thinner arms?

The two-piece design of the T1 Wetsuits offers more comfort and less restriction. Because the top and bottom are not attached, you have much more freedom of movement and there is no “torso-rubber stretch” or shoulder fatigue that occurs with one-piece wetsuits. All T1 models are sold as separates for a more customized and personal fit. With up to seven sizes of tops and bottoms, you have 49 possible size combinations from which to choose. Other features we innovated many years ago include lower necklines and thicker rubber in the legs and hips to help float the largest bones and muscles in the body. More floatation here means more speed. T1 Wetsuits are not filled with gimmicks, just physics.
- Zipper is lighter weight and corrosion resistant
- Less-toxic bonding agent for people with skin sensitivities
Favorite Features Remain:
- Flexible 2mm body and 5mm arms with a lower neckline for comfort.
- BIO-STROKE design puts your arms into a forward rotated shoulder position for a more efficient swim stroke.
- YKK® custom zipper is small, lightweight, and makes removal easier than ever.
- GreenGoma™ #9 Rubber with Super Composite Skin makes the First Wave the warmest, fastest, most durable, flexible, buoyant, and the most comfortable wetsuit in the world today.
- Lined with 4-Way stretch Nylon Lycra® for comfort and to minimize chafing
- Seams are glued and blind-stitched, making them more durable than the rubber itself

Proper swim stroke includes swimming with your head slightly tilted up. Imagine how your head would be if you were reaching for something in an upper shelf of a cabinet. That said, the snug part may require a certain "getting use to.” The other part to know is that it will also relax a little bit over time by wearing it. It is important that the neck be snug so that water does not freely flow in while swimming.
Whether you like to swim for exercise or are on the swim course of a Triathlon, T1 Wetsuits offer you speed, comfort and buoyancy that will make swimming pure pleasure!

I just competed in an Olympic triathlon in New Hampshire this weekend wearing the T1 First Waver Pullover along with a pair of SIM shorts. The pullover was very comfortable, and fit like a glove, and was much thinner and more flexible than my old thicker and bulky full Xterra wetsuit. I was able to swim without feeling constrained, as the material made it easier than the full wetsuit on each and every stroke. It was also a lot easier to get on and off in transition than the full wetsuit (even with the SIM shorts), and I can't recommend the T1 First Wave more highly. In addition, DeSoto worked with me to replace a smaller size that was too tight with a better fitting pullover, and their customer service was fantastic. I couldn't be happier with the product and the service provided.
After having received a size 5 which was too snug, I returned it and exchanged it for a size 6 which fit much better. Customer service was very prompt and the transaction, including the exchange was very easy. The pullover is very comfortable, and is made of a slightly thinner material than typical wetsuit, making it easier to put on and take off, and it is very comfortable in the water. What's most impressive is that it seals tightly to my sim shorts, which I wear separately. I've used so far in a lake, but looking forward to taking it to open ocean swim. I can't recommend this pullover more strongly.
Awesome suit. As a smaller guy the 5mm arms really keep me buoyant in the water making it much easier overall. Super easy to get out of transition. Highly recommend for small guys.
Outstanding suit. Performed well. Easy to put on, but even easier to take off. Cut down T1 time! Although I have no complaints about this pullover, it would be a nice option for this pullover to have a 5mm front panel for those who wear it with the pants and not the bib.
Great product I increase my speed by 10%
